Justice Department to sue Ticketmaster, Live Nation for alleged monopoly over ticketing industry

DOJ preparing anti trust lawsuit against Ticketmaster parent company, Live Nation.

The Department of Justice is planning to file mega anti trust lawsuit against Ticketmaster’s parent company, Live Nation next month

The litigation will accuse the country mega concert promoter of leveraging dominance that undermines competition.

The Wall Street Journal on Monday citing sources familiar with matter. The outlet did not report on specific allegations to be brought in suit.

The DOJ opened its probe into Live Nation maintains monopoly over industry in 2022 when Ticketmaster destroyed while Taylor Swift fans were trying to purchase pre sale tickets for her Eras Tour ” “The New York Times”.

The litigation will country mega concert promoter of leveraging dominance that undermines competition. The Wall Street Journal first report on Monday familiar with matter.

The Justice Department approved merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster in 2010 with regulators promising to bring more competition into ticketing business.

The condition of 2010 deal were set to expire in 2019 anti trust regulators extended it to 2025 revising settlement to include an anti retaliation clause that would subject Live Nation to a $1 million penalty each time should it threaten to withhold shows if venue sold tickets through a company other Ticketmaster.

Ticketmaster has more competition that it has ever had and deal terms with venues show it has nothing close to monopoly power

The Wall Street Journal recently report that Department of Justice DOJ is preparing to file an antitrust lawsuit against the company as early as next month.

Shares of Live Nation dropped 9% in after hours trading. TD Cowens TMT policy analyst Paul Gallant estimated 70% probability of DOJ initiating legal action.

The specifics of lawsuit are not clear whether it will demand a complete breakup for company or seek less drastic measure like banning contracts with venues.

The analyst think that market reply to full divestiture by Live Nation would be unfavorable.

The lawsuit results in lesser restriction like secondary ticketing or exclusive agreement the impact on Live Nation stock could be positive.

The Joker is a threat and there is no denying that world would be better off without him. It is not a place to kill the joker.

People suspected Daredevil of killing a criminal it had superhero community asking him to hang up his mask.

The police were orders to shoot him and his villians got more threatful than ever. It was accident but it showed that killing someone is far from magical solution  that has no consequences.

Batman can not kill the joker and Daredevil proved it.

DC Batman and Joker have been in struggle for decades now and it led few fans to question why Batman does not simply kill the joker.

This is a reasonable response to a villian as  Clown Prince of Crime.

Marvel Daredevil of all actually has perfect answer for why murdering criminal does not assist.

Daredevil accidentally murders a man while preventing a robbery, After he comes to terms with it he initiiate question how this will affect his villians.

He wonders they fear him more now he looks to be capable of murder or more whether the villains might start to working together.

This question encapsulates why Batman should not just begin killing off his rogues with how dangerous his rogue gallery is in particular.

Vigilante work unsanctioned and fight against crime could easily lead to them being arrested. James Gordon has started various times that the only reason he does not arrest Batman is Batman has no kill rule.

Vigilantes who embrace killing like Marvel Punisher are not only hunted by police.

Character like Captain America Daredevil and Spider Man have made their dislike of Punisher known due to methods and while being shunned is a good reason not to go on killing spree.

Villian teams have been a mega threat to world with iconic ones like Legion of Doom or the Injustice League being two  examples. Doing something that give them a reason to unite looks like terrible choice.

The Capulets and Montagues are coming back to Watford as latest Romeo and Juliet production  takes to stage.

The fast paced, modern production was handled by Herfordshire director and playwright Jo Emery and will last 100 minutes with a 20 minute interval.

The Pump House Theatre in Local Board Road Watford will host abridged version of classic Shakespeare play from Tuesday April 16 to Saturday April 20.

Poppy Razavi will act as Juliet in production.

Romeo and Juliet will at the Pump House Theatre from Tuesday April 16 to Saturday April 20.

The production will bring talented cast of actors to the town with Harry Miller and Poppy Razavi playing Romeo and Juliet.

Walmart could owe you up to $500 as lawsuit settlement: How to file a claim

Walmart buyers could get an unexpected windfall of cash as part of new class-action lawsuit settlement.

If you bought weighter goods between October 2018 and January 2024 you could be eligible to get a settlement check.

Here is everything you need to know.

How to file a claim

If you eligible you can submit a claim form online or through mail. It must be submitted online or postmarked by June 5, 2024.

Consumers will get payment electronically through ACH, Zelle, Venom or virtual pre paid MasterCard.

Those who prefer paper check or are unable to get electronic payment can request one.

How has Walmart responded to the lawsuit?

Walmart mediaperson shared the following ” We will continue providing our customers everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they want and need. We still deny the allegation however we believe as settlement is in best interest of both parties.”

What does the lawsuit say?

The class action lawsuit claims Walmart customers ” paid more than the lowest in-store advertised price” on the following products.

  • Select organic grapefruit, oranges, tangerines and navel oranges that were sold in bulk in plastic or mesh bags
  • Items that were sold by weight including poultry, pork, seafood and meat.

The lawsuit alleges the unit price on the sticker of sold by weight seafood products ” is materially less than the unit price charged to consumers at the register”.

For sold by weight products that are on clearance ” the total amount charged at the Point of Sale is greater than the advertised unit price multiplied by weight of product”

The document claims the walmart ” falsely inflates the product weight” on weighed products and mislabels the weight of bagged product.

.How has Walmart responded to the lawsuit?

A Walmart spokesperson shared the following statement with TODAY.com: “We will continue providing our customers everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they want and need. We still deny the allegations, however we believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties.”

How much money will you receive?

Payment amounts based on what you bought during the Settlement Class Period.

” The amount that a Settlement Class Member will get depends on the number of people who submit valid Claim Forms because amounts are subject to pro rate decrease or increase and to a supplemental distribution”

  • Possible cash payment amounts
  • $10 if you dont have proof of purchase but attest that you bought up to 50 weighted goods and or bagged citrus in person during the Settlement Class Period.
  • Up to $500 if you have proof of buying for each weighted good and or bagged citrus that you bought in person during the Settlement Class Period and have amount you paid for each item.
  • You will get 2% of the total cost of the substantiated Weighted Goods and Bagged Citrus Purchased up to $500.
  • $20 if you do not have proof of buying but attest to purchasing 76-100 weighted goods and bagged citrus in person during the Settlement Class Period.
  • $25 if you do not have proof of buying but attest to purchasing 101 or more weighted goods and bagged citrus in person during the Settlement Class Period.
  • $15 if you do not have proof of buying attest 51-75 weighted goods and bagged citrus in person during the Settlement Class Period.

If you do not have receipts you might be able to get them from Walmart Website.

Who is eligible for a cash payment from the settlement?

Walmart has agreed to pay $45 million to consumers with some buyers getting up to $500.

Walmart consumers who shopped weighted goods and bagged citrus while shopping in person at a Walmart store., Supercenter or Neighborhood Market in US or Puerto Rico between Oct 19, 2018 and Jan 19, 2024 the Settlement Class Period could be eligible for cash payment.
