Ex-NFL quarterback Jay Cutler arrested for DUI and gun possession in Tennessee

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested for DUI and gun possession in Tennessee police confirmed to media on Friday.

Cutler 41 was arrested on DUI and charges following a minor traffic collision in downtown Franklin the city police spokesperson Max Winitz add.

Cutler was taken to local hospital where blood sample was obtained through a blood search warrant the spokesperson told media.

He had two firearms in his vehicle including a loaded pistol the spokesperson add.

Officers replied to crash consisting of two vehicles around 5 pm on Thursday and investigation suggested Cutler rear ended another vehicle official said.

Officers add they smelled alcohol during a chat with former NFL quarterback but refused to take a field sobriety test.

He was married to reality television star Kristen Cavallari for seven years.

The Laguna Beach alum and former Chicago Bears quarterback were married in summer 2013.

The couple revealed their divorce in 2020.

Cutler, who starred at Vanderbilt University, was selected by the Denver Broncos with the 11th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He played three seasons in Denver, making the Pro Bowl in 2008, before spending most of his career playing for the Chicago Bears. He played one season in Miami before retiring in 2017.

Cutler was booked in Williamson County Jail and given a $5,000 bond.

He was released later that evening.

He faces four charges including driving under the influence, failure to exercise due care, possessing a gun while intoxicated and implied consent.

Cutler played for the Denver Broncos Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins over his 12 years in NFL.

He played his college ball at Vanderbilt University.

The Broncos took him in  1st round of 2006 NFL Draft.

Officers with Franklin Police Department responded to 200 block of Bridge street for reports of crash involving two vehicles.

Upon arriving at scene the officer discovered Cutler rear ended other vehicle and pulled him aside for questioning.

A strong odor of alcohol coming from Cutler and slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

Franklin PD reported Cutler refused a field sobriety test prompting officer to take him to hospital for blood draw.

He was booked and jailed before being released on $5,000 bond.

Cutler played for the Broncos Bears and Dolphins from 2006 through 2017.

He was contributor in 2023 to inside the NFL.
