Police charge teen in trying carjacking and shooting that injured Uber driver in Austin

Chicago police have arrested a teenage boy in relation with a shooting attempt that left Uber driver seriously injured in Austin earlier this month.

The 16 year boy arrested thursday faces single counts of attempted murder, armed robbery, attempted carjacking and aggravated battery with a firearm related to attack which left 51 year old man in serious condition according to police.

Two other chicago ride share drivers were also shot and murdered in the previous month. Lyft driver Adraina Arocha died Dec 26 and livery and Uber driver Mohammed al Hijoj died Dec 3. Pair were in their vehicles in Austin when they died.

Authorities expressed the boy is one of suspect believed to be involved in the Jan 3 incident. Police statement on the shooting said the driver was dropping off a ride share customer in the 900 block of North Leclaire Avenue when three people walked up took his cell phone and ordered him out of his car. When the man did not cooperate.The three attackers shot him in the chest.

Information for the teen court appearance was not immediately available.
