Toyota recalls 25,815 bZ3 EVs due to false remaining power estimate in China

Toyota is recalling several thousands of bZ3 electric vehicle in China, the first recall after the moel went on sale in April.

Due to improper program of the power battery controller various vehicles in the recall have an extra deviation in the remaining power projection which they have not been fully charged for various consecutive times and continue to be driven at high speeds.

When this happens the remaining battery charge shown on the vehicle instrument is higher than the actual remaining charge and in worse scenario the vehicle will lose power before the charging warning light comes on

Originaly unfold in China on October 25, 2022 the bZ3 is the 2nd model in Toyota bZ series after the bZ4X SUV. FAW Toyota will improve the control program of recalled vehicles through Over the Air technology of the battery, free of charge, to reduce safety hazard.

The FAW Toyota bZ3 is powered by electric motors and blade batteries supply by BYD.It use an in vehicle system made by BYD Toyota EV Technology a joint venture between Toyota and BYD.

The car is mid size electric sedan based on Toyota e TNGA architecture. It measures 4725 mm in length, 1475 mm in height and 1835 mm width with a wheelbase of 2880mm.

The bZ3 is equipped with a single rear across the range available in 135 KW and 180kW choices both with peak torque of 303 Nm.This configuration permit the sedan to increase from 0 to 50 km h in 3.2 seconds.
