Navan set for morning inspection

Officials at Navan are hopeful that overnight spike in temperatures will permit for racing on the track on Saturday today afternoon.Precautionary inspection at 7 30 am today morning Saturday 20 January.

Following overnight frost the tack at Navan is unfit for racing, however the forecast is for temperatures to climb up to 6 degrees today and into tomorrow with the chance of light showers overnight.

“With that forecast we are optimistic that racing will go ahead. However due to the fact that we currently remain unfit for racing we will have a precautionary inspection at 7:30 am saturday to assess the situation.

Having spoken with Met Eireann, the forecast looks favourable withe temperatures already rising and likely to remain from 5-6 degrees overnight and into tomorrow. There is a chance of light rain overnight

Following another colid night last night with temperatures dropping to minus three degrees the track at Navan remains unfit for racing at the moment due to frost”. IHRB Clerk of the Course at Navan Paddy Graffin said.

Elizabeth Holmes banned from federal health programs for 90 years

Federal regulators declared Friday that convicted fraudster Elizabeth Holmes founder of the defunct blood testing company Theranos, has been banned from involving in federal health programs for 90 years a lifetime ban.

The Officer of Inspector General OIG for the Department of Health and Human Services, HHS viewed Holmes 2022 conviction for fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud as the reason for her ban.

“Accurate and dependable diagnostic testing technology is imperative to our public health infrastructure. Dals statement related to the reliability of these medical products can endanger the health of patients and snow distrust in our health care system.”HHS Inspector General Christi A Grimm said.

Holmes was sentenced to roughly 11 years in prison for lying to investors about the capabilities of her blood testing technology. Sentence was reduced by 2 years

Theranos Coo Ramesh Sunny Balwani with whom Holmes had a relationship with as they ran the company had been excluded from federal programs also for 90 years.

OIG exclusion from federal health care program means Holmes will not be eligible to get benefits through programs like Medicaid or Medicare. She will not be able to work for an entity that get federal health care funding apart from limited scenario.

The length of Holmes’s exclusion is based on the application of several aggravating factors including the length of time the acts were incarceration, committed and the amount of restitution ordered to be paid.

Luis Vasquez was born in Las Angeles and he grew up in the remote city of Victorville. He begin playing in punk bans as a teenage before heading to the Bay Area and making music under the Soft Moon name. His self title first album came out on Captured Tracks in 2010.

The bodies of 4 people were found inside and the police believes they were all known to each other.

ODOT confirmed the accident happened on I-480 eastbound at Tiedeman Road on Jan 16. The 19 First Alert Traffic update at 3:30 pm showed a live view at the accident shortly after first responder arrived on scene.

CMA CGM to buy UK logistics company Wincanton in grocery push

French shipping firm CMA CGM is set to buy British logistics company Wincanton in a deal value $700mn that will take CMA CGM latest push in logistics to the UK supermarket segment.

Through its CEVa logistic unit, CGM has made all cash offer for Wincanton of 450 pence per share offer, showing a premium of 52% to Wincanton stock closing price of 297 pence on Thursday, the two firms said.

CMA CGM privately managed by Saade family has made a series of acquisitions in logistic companies, french media and port terminals, helped by mega shipping profits in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.

Wincanton is active in the Ireland and UK in markets from consumer goods and food to defence and fuel and operates over 170 sites. Wincanton shares jumped 47% trading on Friday and touched their highest since july 2021.

Wincanton expressed its board intend to unanimously recommend that its shareholders vote in favour of CMA CGM bid, which would lead to the UK company being delisted from the stock market. The companies said ” The offer values Wincanton at 566.9 million pounds on a fully diluted basis.

American Airlines jet slides off icy NY runway

Officials say the jet had 50 passengers and 3 staff members on board. A jet that took off from Philadelphia International Airport skids off the taxiway after landing in Rochester, New York.

The cause of this incident remains under investigation. Official says the plane , an E-145 Embraer Regional Jet had 50 passengers and 3 members on board. It happened after American Eagle Flight 5811 landed at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Frederick Douglas Rochester International Airport.

There were no injuries. Passengers were being moved to the terminal by bus. American Airlines American Eagles parent company expressed the plan skid due to snowy airfield conditions. The plane will be taken out of service for a complete inspection.

3M earplug settlement on track as service members and veteran opt into $6B deal

More than 30,000 service members and military veterans have agreed to 3Ms settlement over allegedly faulty earplugs, prompting 3M to issue $253 million in payments.

3M in recent past made $250 million in first payments to more than 30,000 claimants end of December. The milestone is important due to unanimous level of acceptance is needed fro the 276,000 claimants in order of the $6 billion settlement declared previous summer to be valid.

The payments will be made by the end of the month to thousand plaintiffs who were ready to go to trial as the settlement was drafted and have now agreed to participate in the settlement and release their claims.

The Maplewood based company declared the settlement in August after 5 years of litigation battle into one of the mega mass torts in United States of America history.

More than 25000 active service members and veteran blamed hearing damage on Combat Arms earplugs made by 3M subsidiary Aero Technologies and sold to the military from 1999 to 2015. 3M which acquired Aero in 2008 earplugs were safe when use properly.

Federal Judge signed off on 3M’s plan to issue one billion dollar in stock to assist pay for the settlement. Payments will be made in phases through 2029.
