Phone giant AT&T has reset millions of consumer account passcodes after mega cache of data consisting AT&T consumer records was leaked online earlier this month.

The U.S. telco giant started passcode mass reset after TechCrunch informed AT&T on Monday that the leaked data contained encrypted passcodes that could be used to get AT&T customer accounts.

AT&T released statement ” AT&T has launched a robust investigation supported by internal and external cybersecurity experts. Based on preliminary analysis, the data set appears to be from 2019 or earlier, impacting almost 7.6 million current AT&T account holders and approximately 65.4 million former account holders”

“AT&T does not have evidence of unauthorize access to its systems resulting in exfiltration of data set ”

TechCruch held the publication of this story until AT&T could start resetting consumer account passcodes. At&T has post on what customers can do to keep their accounts secure.

AT&T consumer account passcodes are typically 4 digit numbers that are used as extra layer of security when reaching a customer account such as calling AT&T customer service in retail stores and online

In 2021 the hacker claiming the AT&T brach posted only small sample of records making it harder to check if data was authentic. Earlier in March data seller published the full 73 million alleged AT&T records online on a famous cybercrime forum permitting for detailed analysis of leaked records.

AT&T consumers have confirmed that their leaked account data is accurate.

The leaked data consist of AT&T customer names, phone numbers, dates of birth and Social Security numbers.

By correlating encrypting account passcodes to surrounding account data like consumer dates of birth house numbers partial Social Secuirty number and phone numbers.

Croley as able to reverse engineer which encrypted values matched which plaintext passcode.

According to Croley the less randomness of encrypted data means its possible to guess the consumer 4 digit account passcode based on surrounding information in leaked data set.

US federal prosecutors charged crypto exchange KuCoin and two of its founders with anti money laundering laws violation on Tuesday.

Exchange worked in the U.S lied to one of its investors about working in the U.S. and failed to both register with U.S. government entities and maintain an anti money laundering program.

KuCoin did not register with the US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network as money services business.

The U.S. Department of Justice told indictment that KuCoin and founders ChunGan and Ke Tang operated KuCoin as money transmitting business over 30 million customers did not implement a know your customer or AML program until 2023. Its KYC program did not apply to existing consumers.

Neither Tang nor Gan was arrested.

It did not implement any KYC or AML programs KuCoin made itself available to be used and in fact was used as vehicle for laundering the proceeds of criminal activities and suspicious including proceeds from sanctions, violations, darknet markets, ransomware, maware and fraud schemes. the indictment said.

U.S. Attorney Damien Williams said in statement tha KuCoin actively tried to hide that numbers of US users were trading on its platform.

Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Darren McCormack called Kucoin an alleged multibillion dollar criminal conspiracy noting it was one of the mega crypto exchanges.

Terraform Labs Do Kwon lost appeal against South Korea Extradition

A court in the Balkan country of Montenegro has rejected the appeal of cryptocurrency firm Terraform Labs. Co founder Do Kwon to block his extradition to South Korea where he will face several criminal charges.

Do Kwon is going to South Korea to face fraud charges related to Terra Luna crash. A montenegro court rejected his lawyers appeal to not extradite him on Wednesday. The Terraform Labs co founder is sought by US authorities.

He faces fraud charges in South Korea related to The Terra Luna collapse which wiped out estimated $60 billion in 2022.

Both South Korea and US have petitioned for Kwon extradition.

Its official Montenegro authorities will extradite Terraform Labs co founder Do Kwon to South Korea.

The court decision will be sent to the US authorities but it will not postpone the extradition. This decision is ultimate and defendant will be extradited to South Korea.

Kwon lawyer said

” We are satisfied with the decision of the Appellate Court which show that principle of the rule of law is respected, unlike other state bodies that participated in this extradition procedure. ”

The US sought Kwon extradition for securities fraud and charges but Kwon lawyer appealed a court ruling to send him there.

Montenegro lawmakers determined South Korea request came first and ruled to send him to his home country.

Kwon was arrested last March on a tarmac in Montenegro for possession of fake Costa Rican passport.

Kwon pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to travel with false documents but the court found the businessman guilty and sentenced him to 4 months in prison in Montenegro.
