Washington Post Schar School poll shows vice President Kamala Harris leading former President Trump 50% to 42% in Virginia.

The new Washington Post Schar School poll released Tuesday prior the two candidates debated in Philadelphia showed Harris leading Trump by 50% to 42% in Old Dominion State with benefit of doubt plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

No Republican presidential candidate has won Virginia since former President George W Bush re election in 2004.

The GOP has been making inroad in the state with 2021 election of Gov. Glenn Youngkin as the first republican to be elected to the governorship since 2009 and further success in 2022 midterms and the state 2023 off year elections.

Harris polled superb in close in Washington DC suburbs 60% Richmond area 55% and Virginia exurbs 56%.

Eastern Virginia favor Harris at 49% compared to 42% for Trump.

Harris performed good among Black Virginia voters gaining 73% of their help.

White voters favors Trump at 50% to 43% for Harris.

White voters with college degree favore  Harris at 57% compared to 36% for Trump. white voters without college degree favor Trump by 64% to 29%.

Mark Rozell dean of the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University said the poll shows that Trump does have lead on any issue measured in this survey.

The poll which was conducted from Sept.4 through Sept. 8 found 55% of female Virginia voters they would voter for Harris contesting to 37% for Trump.

Harris is net famous with 49% favorable and 42% unfavorable. 53% of Virginians have unfavorable impression of former president while 39% are favorable.

The poll was conducted among random sample of 1005 registered voters in Virginia with 65% reached by mobile phone live callers 21% via mobile phone text to web and 14% on landlines.
