Hackers leak 13,000 user images and IDs from Tea app designed as ladies safe space

The viral app require latest user to take selfies which it says it deletes after review.

Hackers have breached the Tea app which went viral as palce for ladies to safety talk about men and tens of thousands of ladies selfies and images IDs have been leaked online.

The Tea apps creator Sean Cook added on its website that he was inspired after watched his mother experience with online dating including being catfished and dating men with criminal records.

On Tea users can run background checks search for criminal histories and reverse images to check whether a amn is catfishing.

The app claims to donate 10% of its profits to National Domestic Violence Hotline.

The app told in Instagram story that new signups have surpassed 2 million in past few days.

Many who posted on app instagram page said they remain on app waitlist.

In few online forums me have floated ideo of creating own men only version of app as payback for women use of Tea.

One such app called Teaborn rapidly ignited backlash after creator called users out of posting revenge porn.

The app is removed from App store.

Some men online have expressed in online posts that fear being misrepresented or doxxed on platform.

Other consisting of few users of app have raised worries that app could lead to harmful cyberbullying unrelated to actual safet concerns.

A spokesperson confirmed the hack Friday afternoon The company estimates that 72,000 photoes including 13000 verification images and government IDs were accessed.

Tea is designed to function as virtual whisper network for ladies allowing them to upload images of men and search for them by name.

USers can leave comments describing specific men as red flag or green flag and share information about them.

It gained famous that it became the top free app in Apple App Store this week.

The app claimed Thursday to have gained nearly a million new signups.

Signing up for Tea requires users to take selfies which app says are deleted after review to prove they are ladies.

All users who get accepted are promised anonymity outside of username they choose.

Taking screenshots of whats in app is also blocked.

The hacker accessed a database from over two years ago, the Tea spokesperson adding that “This data was storted in compliance wth law enforcement requirements related to cyberbullying prevention”.

The Tea spokesperson added that company has hired third party cybersecurity experts and working around clock to secure our systems.

On Google Maps a usrs has created a map that purports show location of Tea users that were affected by hack though there are no names addresses or other identifying information aside from coordinates on it.

The app has angered few men and prompted a thread Thursday evening on right wing troll message board4Chain in which users called for hack and leak campaign.

The company became aware of incident which was first reported by 404 Medi Friday the spokespeeson added.

“Protecting our users privacy and data is our highest priority. Tea is taking step to ensure the security of our platform and prevent further exposure.

The spokesperson added.

A 4Chan user posted a link Friday morning allegedly permitting people to download the database of stolen photos and troves of alleged victims identification images have been posted on 4Chan and X.
