The moviemaker announced that Stephen King novel IT was way ahead of its time.
When Stephen King wrote it was writing a masterpiece of horror and coming of age story but it was parable of fearmongering and weaponizing of fear in real world.

IT Welcome to Derry release schedule
The show will premiered tonight on HBO at 9 pm ET and PT with following episodes air on Sunday nights.
According to Deadline the prequel series will have eight episode and finale will release on December 14.
