Pakistani Beef Stew i.e. easy Nihari recipe is one of the most popular dish in Pakistan.Easy Nihari require meat beef or mutton.This recipe consist of slow cooker & stove top. It only requires 1 pot and less than 1 hour to cook time.

My mother made slow cooker recipe of Nihari. She is very expert in cooking nihari.I learns a lot from her experience how to make easy nihari. My husband,kids are crazy of my hand made nihari. Stovetop is used in cooking nihari.My mother used to homemade Nihari Masala which are natural in taste.

WHAT IS NIHARI?

Nihari is a slow cooked meat stew flavored with spices and thickened with atta.Nihari is made of beef,lamb,goat meat and chicken.Historically this dish belongs to Mughal Era. It is first cook in Old Delhi.Nihari word is from Arabic which means “morning”. Beacause it is eat in morning time as breakfast. It gives energy to worker.

NIHARI INGREDIENTS

Nihari ingredients are most simple. It is found in Pakistani Cuisine.

  • Flour
  • Ground Spices
  • Oil
  • Garnish
  • Garlic Ginger
  • Ghee
  • Salt
  • Onion
  • Nihari Masala
  • Star anise cinnamon bay leaf

WHAT CUT OF MEAT TO USE FOR NIHARI

Nihari is made of boneless beef shanks.You can also use front shoulder chuk or rear muscle round.

NIHARI MASALA

You can use Shan Nihari Masala. I used homemade Nihari Masala.

  • Pinch Cane Sugar
  • 1/8 tsp nigella seeds
  • 1/8 tsp caraway seeds
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp ginger powder
  • 1 small black cardamon pod
  • 1 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1 small inch mace blade
  • 3/4 inch peepli
  • 1/4 tsp feenel seeds
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala powders

Mix all these grinder in a spice grinder.

HOW TO MAKE NIHARI

Nihari is all about flavor.Onion,oil ,spices are taste of Nihari.

  • Brown the onions. Searing the meat to brown. Dont fry over.
  • Mix spices and cook in hot oil.Add a water
  • For stovetop allow to boil.Add water and mix to combine
  • Thick the gravy. stir into atta flour.Allow to cook and thicken.

HOW TO GET THE OIL ON TOP OF NIHARI

To get the oil on top allow to simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.

WHAT IS NALLI NIHARI?

Nalli means pipe or tube.Nalli Nihari is made with beef bones.This gives Nihari a rich flavour.Bone marrow is take outside and mix to Nihari.

HOW TO MAKE GLUTEN FREE NIHARI

Dry roast brown rice flour for 5 minutes on low heat and replaces for atta flour.Dry roasting increases the flavour.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH NIHARI

Nihari is traditionally serve with naan. It is eat as a breakfast or brunch.Lemon, ginger chopped green chili garnish on Nihari.They enhancing the taste of Nihari.

How to Make Nihari Thick

Allow to cook nihari uncovered so it decreases.Also add more atta.
