Chana Dal Recipe Pakistani English and Urdu

Chan Dal served with roti,rice is a healthy, good meal that you will like to eat every time.Pakistani eat lentils almost each day in some form.It is naturally glutten free and vegan.This Chana Dal Recipe is easiest method of eat lentils with no effort.

Chana Dal in English

Chana Dal in English is known as Bengal Gram is broken type of chickpeas.There are Kala Chana/black chickpeas, Kabuli Chana/White Chickpeas.In Pakistani cuisine we use brown chickpeas or split chickpeas for Chana Dal.Chana Dal is highyly protein,zinc,fiber,calcium and folate.In Pakistan Chana Dal are cooked in various ways.Every province has famous dish with Chana Dal.There are Fry Chana Dal, Chana Dal Curry, Chana Dal Masala dishes etc.Apart from these Dal Halwa is very popular in Pakistan. Chana Dal Recipe Step By Step

  • Chana Dal wash half cup.Soak it for 2 hours
  • Add the chana dal to the pressure cooker
  • Then pour 1.25 cup of water
  • Boil in a pot pouring more water
  • Chana dal must be completely cooked. It must be grainy
  • Add 2 tablespoon ghee or oil into pot.Then add 3/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Add 1 red chilly.Fry for 30 seconds
  • Add 1/4 cup onions and fry
  • Add 1 teaspoon ginger
  • Add 1/4 teaspoon turmeric,1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 cup pureed tomatoes
  • Add 1/4 teaspoon red chilli and 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Again fry this for few minutes and raw smell goes away
  • Next change the cooked dal alongwith the stock in cooker.You may add 1/2 cup water to bring it consistency
  • Mesh gently a few lentils. Add 1/2 teaspoon Kasuri methi
  • Cook for 2 minutes.Add Coriander leaves

Serve with roti or paratha, rice.Add some lemon and with mango pickles or chuntney.

  • 1/2 cup chana dal
  • 1 1/2 instant pot for water
  • 2 Table spoon oil or ghee
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 medium tomato
  • 1 spoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 dry red chilli
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground tumeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek leaves
  • 2 tablespoon coriander leaves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • Tomatoes
  • Leafy greens
  • Lentils
