Veteran Morning Edition host Bob Edwards dies at 76

Longtime morning National Public Radio Host Bob Edwards has died according to NPR. He was 76 years veteran.

Edwards was the host of radio stations Morning Edition show for 24 and half years. NPR said adding people knew him as the voice we woke up to.

He left NPR in 2004 and interview one of his radio heroes Charles Osgood during his last show.

Osgood was the first person Edwards interviewed for Morning Edition.

Edwards went on to host his own show at Sirius XM Radio. He could be heard on Bob Edwards Weekend through Public radio channels

NYC schools going remote Tuesday due to snow threat

New York City public schools will go remote Tuesday city officials revealed monday before a winter storm estimated to dump up to 8 inches of snow on five boroughs.

It will be a test of asynchronous learning for the nation mega public school district. The city had for all intents and aims done away with snow days after Covid 19 pandemic forced more innovative learning.

That said the city has not moved fully remote for snow day to this point. The New York City has suspended alternate side parking regulations for Tuesday.

This Year Presidents Day falls on Monday Feb. 19, 2024. The federal holiday is observed the 3rd Monday of February each year.

What is Presidents Day?

Officially known as Washington Birthday the first federal holiday of the year was meant to honor the country first president George Washington.

Washington was born in Virginia on Feb 11 1731 according to used Julian calendar. In 1752 Britain and all colonies adopted the Georgian calendar which moved birthday a year and 11 day to Feb 22 1732.

The holiday included honoring President Abraham Lincoln whose birthday is Feb.12. The position of holiday between birthdays of Washington and Lincoln gave hike to famous name of Presidents Day.

Why do we celebrate Presidents Day?

The country celebrated the founding father birthday before Congress revealed it a federal holiday according to National Archives.

Congress established a joint committee to overlook festivities to honor the former president nationally. On Feb 22, 1832 the committee recommended Congress Washington memory and in commemoration of his birth.

The House and Senate commemorated the 130th anniversary of Washington birth by reading his farewell address. This event became a tradition in the Senate that is still observed to this day.

Washington Birthday did not become a legal holiday til Jan 31, 1879 when congress added Feb 22 to the holidays to be observed by federal employees in District of Columbia. This does not become a paid holiday for federal employees until 1885.

The post office, stock market, banks and schools will be closed on Presidents Day. Most grocery and retail stores will be open.

Federal holidays are those observed by the federal government so anyone who works for federal government has the day off. Federal holidays may be observed on Monday or Friday if they fall on weekend.

Taylor Swift strolled into Allegiant Stadium for the Super Bowl surrounded by friends. She cuddled with Blake Lively during Post Malone performance of America the Beautiful and won what appeared to be a beer chugging competition slamming her cup down to a noise from fans.

Swift little to cheer during the match. The pop superstar flew halfway around the globe to see her boyfriend Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and team play the San Francisco 49ers.

Defending Super Bowl Champion struggled with first half filled with miscues, dropping passes, and Chiefs trailed 10 -3 at halftime.

Swift completed her trip from Tokyo Dome to Allegiant Stadium for the match walking through security along with Lively, Ice Spice and her mother. She was seen talking to Kelce brother Philadelphia Eagles Jason Kelce and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in private boxes that cost more than $1 million.

Swift who has been dating Kelce first few weeks of NFL season flew on private plane across nine times zones and international date line from last 4 shows at Tokyo Dome in Japan to arrive 2 hours before start.

The time change allowed her to land in Los Angeles and make last hop to Las Vegas.

The 14 time Grammy winner walked in wearing a black outfit with red jacket over shoulder getting the memo from Kelce and many of the chiefs.

He wore a shimmering back suit, quaterback Patrick Mahomes wore a sharp black suit of his own and Chief coach Andy Reid wore a black blazer as Chiefs leaned into role of villians.

Swift became a regular at games both away and homes sitting with Brittany Mahomes the wife of Kansas City quatterback Patrick Mahomes.

Swift brought friends including Ryan Reynolds and Lively.

Swift start dating Kelce after he said on his New Heights podcast that had tried and failed to give her a friendship bracelet during her performance at Arrowhead stadium. Kelce invited her to watch him perform at home of the Chiefs

Kelce and Swift wont have whole lot of time together instead how the games gone.

After winning a record breaking 4th album of year award at the Grammy for Midnights where she declared her next album will drop in April.

Swift is due back across the Pacific later this week. The international leg of her Eras Tour resumes Friday night in Australia win the first three shows at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

There was star power besides Swift for the NFL marquee night. Usher performed the halftime show with guest including Alicia Keys. Reba McEntire sang the national anthem.
