Ryan Wesley Routh has been marked by US media as suspect following the assassination attempt on US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Florida.
He is suspected of going to the Trump International Golf Course in Florida on Sunday armed with an Ak 47 style rifle.
The FBI recovered the weapon and scope two backpacks and GoPro camera from bush where the doubtful person hide.
Routh managed to exit in his vehicle he appears to have been traced by witness who took an image of black Nissan he was driving.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said two officers picked up Mr Routh vehicle 45 minutes after the gun was spotted at golf course and followed it.
He was stopped on Interstate 95 and taken into custody.
Mr Routh is from North Carolina and spen major part of his life. He has recently lived in Hawaii.
He has multiple legal issues.
Mr Routh trump shooter voted Democratic and in person during the party 2024 primary in North Carolina according to State Board of Elections.
He is registered as unaffiliated voter but social media post adding he had backed Trump in 2016.
Mr Routh son has expressed him as loving and caring father and honest hardworking man.
Records show Mr Routh legal issues go back to 1990 including lesser charges writing bad cheques.
In 2002 he was charged with possession of weapon of mass destruction. In other incident records show him being charged with misdemeanours including a hit and run resisting arrest and concealed weapons violation.
Mr Routh was charged and convicted of multiple felony offences in Guilford County in North Carolina between 2002 and 2010.
His alleged attacks include driving with a revoked license possession of stolen property and hit and run with motor cycle.
The FBI revealed an investigation and adds it is working with local law enforcement agencies.
Secret Service and Homeland Security agents have also searched Mr Routh former home of in Greensboro North Carolina.
Mr Routh remains in custody and no charges have been filed against him.
He is expected to appear in front of judge later on Monday at the Palm Beach County courthouse near Mar a Lago.
