Two person have appeared in court charge with murder of paedophile singer Ian Watkins who killed in Wakefield Prison.

who was serving 29 year jail sentence was injured an incide at prison just after 9 30 BST on Saturday.

Rashide Geder 25 Samuel Dodsworth 43 both appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

Watkins 48 was jailed in 2013 fro string to kid sex offences including attempted rape of baby.

A high security jail housing some of UK most offenders Wakefield Prison currently holds over 600 inmates.

A report on condition within facility was publish last month said violence had increase markedly sicne past inspection in 2022.

It said prison infrastructue was in poor state citing breakdown of equipment and some element of prison perimeter security system.

Those currently serving time at prison are believed to be Roy Whiting who murdered eight year old Sarah Payne in 2000 and Reynhard Sinage who was convicted of 159 sexual attacks against 48 men in 2020.

Men have been attacked at jail in past years.

Separately during consecutive hearing at court both Mr Gedel and Mr Dodsworth spoke only to confirm names and dates of birth.

Bothe defendants were told they would appear before Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday with no pleas entered during short hearings.

Watkins who faced six years on licence if he was ever released admitted the attempted rape and sexual attack of child under 13 but pleaded not guilty to rape.

He admitting conspiring to rape a kid three counts of sexual attack involvinf kids seven invoking taking making indecent images of kids and one of possessing an extreme pornographic photo involvinf sex act on animal.

During sentencing Mr Justice Royce added the case broke new ground and plunged into latest depth of depravity.

Watkin was attacked at Wakefield prison in 2023.

Formed in ponty pridd in 1997 became one of Uk biggest bands securing 11 top 40 hits and number one album between 2002 and 2010.

In statement released after conviction the band remainging member said they were heartbroken angry disgusted at crimes.

Watkins was once one of Wales most recognise musicians the frontman of rock band.

At height of their popularity the group sold million of album around the globe.

The group disbanded after Watkins was convicted in 2013.

Prosecutors described Watkins as man corrupted by popularity drugs power one who committed crimes beyond imagination.

His trial heard Watkins had used his fame to manipulate and control other under influence of hard drugs including crystal meth.

After Watkin was sentenced Des Mannion NSPCC national head of service for Wales said Watkins used his status and global fame as means to manipulate people and sexuall abuse kids.

But we must nevertheless remember that this case is not about celebrity its about victims.

All those victims are children.
