Susan Wojcicki Former Youtube CEO and Influential Google Exec dies at 56

Susan Wojcicki who served as CEO of YouTube for 9 years during a time of mega progress for the video platform and was one of Google first hires died on Friday August 9.

Wojcicki death after two year collision with cancer was revealed by her husband Dennis Troper in a public news Friday evening on social media platform.

Sundar Pichai CEO of Google and Alphabet in a tribute posted on X adds

“Unbeluevably saddened by loss of my dear friend after two year of living with cancer. She is core of historo of Google as anyone its hard to imagine the world without her. Pichai continued. She was incredible person, friend and leader who had a termendous impact on the world and I m one of countless Googlers who is better for knowing her We will miss her dearly. Our thoughts with her family RIP Susan”

she stepped down as CEO of YouTube in February 2023.

In February 2014 Wojcicki was named YouTube CEO. Google is appointment of Wojcicki one of company senior execs reflected how important the video platform had become to its advertising business.

Wojcicki joined Google in 1999 as 16th employee becoming the search engine marketing exec Co founder Larry Page and Sergey Brin ran the company out of her garage in Menlo Park, Calif among her accomplishments she get the company first deal to license search technology and led the first development of Google image search.

In her various roles at Google Wojcicki had overseen product management of Adsenes, Google Book Search and Google Video an syndication of the company produts. Before Google she worked at Intel, Bain & Co and RB Webber & Co.

Neal Mohan who succeeded Wojcicki as YouTube CEO said he had the good fortune of meeting Susan 17 years before when she was the architect of the DoubleClick acquisition. the ad tech company where he had been an executive. Her legacy lives on everything she touched @google and @youtube.

Mohan wrote on X “Iam forever grateful for her friendship and guidance. I will miss her termedously. My heart goest out to her family and loved ones”

“It is with profound sadness that I share news of Susan Wojcicki passing. My wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non small cell lung cancer.

“Susan was not just my best friend and partner in life but a superb mind a loving mother and a dear friend to may. Her impact on our family and the world was immeasurable.We are heartbroken but grateful for the time we had with her. Keep our family in your thought as we navigate this time.”

Wojcicki was considered as one of powerful lady in the company reported directly to Google co founders for most of her tenure.

Seh personally convinced Google board to buy YouTube.

In 2014 she was one of the 50 most important people shaping the world. Beyond helping build Google into one of companies of past two decades she helped transform YouTube into the place where the next generation of celebrities and influencers are born.
