Who Is Sydney Wilson? Woman shot dead after slashing police officer

Lady who was shot by Virginia Police officer after slashing his face with knife during a welfare check had posted about being certified to provide adult mental health first help on social media.

Sydney Wilson 33 was pronounced dead at hospital on September 16.

The Fairfax County Police Department said officer had replied to 11800 block of Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston at around 10:20 am after mental health counselor asked police to conduct welfare check on Wilson who reported to be in agitated state.

Body camera image released on Monday shows the officer who department identified as 14 year veteran Peter Liu arriving at door of Wilson apartment and knocking.

Wilson opened door dressed in robe and said hi twice before closing door again.

“Sydney loved children and was inspirational speaker to young girls that were coached by her former teammates and aspired to play high school and college basketball. Sydney legacy friendship love and empathy will live on in hearts of everyone who ever met her”.

She worked leasing operations manage for JLL Mid Atlantic in Washington DC on Linkedin page.

On Facebook and Linkedin pages she had posted receiving a  certification in mental health training this year.

The video shows Liu continued knocking and asking for Wilson to open the door.

When Wilson opened the door again three minutes later she said how are you then raised a knife and lunged at Liu.

Oh Jesus Christ Liu said then backed down hallway as Wilson followed still brandishing the knife.

The officer then pointed his gun at Wilson and instructed her to back up the images shows.

Wilson was born in Pennsylvania but live in Reston.

She graduated from St John College High School in Washington DC before going to earn a bachelor degree from Georgetown University.

When Wilson lunged toward him Wilson fired two shots. He fired three time as Wilson looked to be moving toward him she fell to ground.

The images shows blood dripping from Liu head onto his hand and floor when her called in shooting and requested medical help.

she played basketball during high school and college according to her obituary.

“Sydney was fierce competitor even though her outward demeanor has described as girly and fancy and she love the game of basketball and all teammates throughout the years creating lifelong bonds”
