Thunder and lightening expect to hit parts of UK on Friday and Saturday

Met Office issues two yellow warnings adding damage to buildings, transport fault expected.

The Met  Office has issued two yellow weather threats for thunderstorms for Friday and Saturday and told damage to building as result of lightning attacks, flooding and disturbance to transport should be projected within affected regions.

Friday alert covers most of south west England and some part of Wales west London and Midlands and is in place from 12 noon until 8pm.

Thunderstorms and lightning are projected to hit the UK with up to 70 mm of rainfall expected within some hours after spell of dry weather.

The Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud add “We are being spoiled by almost summer last hurrah but there is a bit of change coming down the line as we move our way through towards Friday and especially the weekend”.

A “gentle decline” in temperature is expected over the weekend with highs of 24C forecast for East Anglia on Saturday followed by low 20s in the are on Sunday he added.

As of 17 September the UK had average rainfall of 49.5mm this month.

The second warning is in place all of Saturday from 1am and covers all of Wales and south west England Midlands.

The weather serviced add that hail and frequent lightning could accompany the thunderstorm and heavy showers and that up to 70mm of rain could fall in worst affected areas on Saturday.

The stormy weather follows a warm dry spell as temperatures reached 25C.

The mercury hit the same high in south east England on Thursday.
