49ers rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest Saturday afternoon n downtown San Francisco during an attempted robbery.

According to the San Francisco Fire Department a 911 call at 3:38 pm local time report shots fired at the corner of Geary and Grant Streets a block distance from San Francisco Union Square.

Police arrived shortly after.

According to the San Francisco Police Department a physical fight between Pearsall and suspect occurred during the attempted robbery and pair were injured.

Pearsall and suspect were later moved to San Francisco General Hospital.

In a statement released Saturday evening the 49ers add Pearsall is in serious but stable condition after getting a bullet wound to his chest.

The suspect a 17 year old male from Tracy Calif has arrested according to San Francisco Police Chief William Scott.

The Niners selected Pearsall with No 31 pick in April NFL draft out of the University of Florida.

District Attorney Brooke Jenkins add  a charging decision on the suspect who she noted is a juvenile will be made on Tuesday or Wednesday.

“Thankfully our hard working officers made  a swift arrest in this case and we will do everything within our power to ensure justice is served. Scott add in a  statement.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed said the Pearsall is in good condition Scott added that Pearsall had been alert enough to speak to police about the shooting but there would be dialogue as Pearsall recovers.
