The Nobel Committee  awarded this year peace prize to Maria Corina Machado amid calls for President Donald Trump to receive award in wake of his brokering a deal between Hamas and Israel.

Machado Venezuelan opposition leader was detailed as brave and committed champion of peace by Joergen Watne Fydnes chair of Norwegian Nobel Committee.

She is receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for tireless work promoting democratic right for people of Venezuel and her struggle to achieve just and peaceful transition form dictatorship to democracy Frydness said.

During Cabinet meeting on Thursday Trump was asked about Nobel Peace Prize but did not comment on award in reply.

He focused on  addressing Israel Knesset.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum a group representing families of hostages and terror victims formed after Oct 7 appealed to committe on Trump behalf.

“In this past year no leader or organization has contributed mroe to peace around world than President Trump. Many have spoken about peace he has achieved it. Other have offered empty promises he has delivered tangible results that have save countless lives.”

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu told Trump in July during visit to Washington DC that he nominated the president for Nobel Peace Prize.

Netanyahu handed letter he sent commitee to Trump when he told him the media.

The president has realized great chances He forged the Abraham Accords. He is forging peace as we speak in one country and one region after other. Netanyahu said.

Trump was nominated for the award in the past but was not selected. Notably, U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., nominated Trump for the prize in 2020 when he brokered the Abraham Accords, normalizing relations between Israel and Arab nations.

Had he won, Trump would have become the fifth U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Previous laureates include former President Barack Obama, former President Jimmy Carter, former President Woodrow Wilson and former President Theodore Roosevelt.
