‘Hundreds of millions’ could get piece of Oracle privacy settlement:Here’s how to file a claim

Oracle has agreed to pay out $115 million to settle claims it tracked people online and offline activity then privacy by selling the information to third parties.

Oracle denies all wrongdoing but agreed to pay $115 million to settle the claims and Americans may be eligible for piece of the payout.

Oracle is one of the mega tech companies in the US people may not be as familiar with its softwares because lot of work happens behind the scenes.

Bank use Oracle software to manage databases of their customers and customers transactions hospital use it to store patient records and retail businesses use it for sales and inventory.

The lawsuit says ” This process provides Oracle with virtual panopticon: Oracle purports to have vision on virtually everything ascertainable in electronic form about Class members from where they live to the media they consume to the thing they buy to view they hold”.

The lawsuit goes on to claim that Oracle sells the personal data it collects to other companies people lack a direct relationship with Oracle they do not have any way to even consent to information being shared.

How big are the payments?

Each size of individual payment is not visible. It depends on how may claims are filed and approved.

Attorney fees of up to $28.75 and administrative cost will first be deducted from the $115 million sum and the rest will be divided equally among valid claimants.

The final approval hearing is scheduled for Nov 14.

You are eligible for payment if you live in US for period since Aug 19, 2018 anf your personal data was acquired, captured or otherwise collected by Oracle Advertising technologies or made available for use or sale by or through ID Graph or Oracle Advertising product or service.

The filing deadline is Oct 17 at 11:50 pm Pacific Time.
